Each vetted K9 will receive a patch and certificate, this is not a certification, it is to show that we have seen them work and have confidence in them. All K9's are properly certified.
Dylan’s Dogs is an initiative by Dylan’s Legacy that honors the memory of Dylan Rounds by empowering canine teams to support both search efforts and emotional recovery. This program is divided into two key branches:
1. Dylan’s Search Dogs: Cadaver and Forensic K9 Vetting & Recognition
This branch focuses on strengthening search and recovery efforts by helping to identify and elevate the most capable K9 teams in the nation.
2. Dylan’s Support Dogs: Comfort K9s for Community Healing
This compassionate arm of Dylan’s Dogs provides emotional support through therapy-certified or comfort-trained dogs.
We’re on the lookout for certified K9' and handler teams across the country. We will be holding vettings in various locations to be able to grow our resources. Our goal is to establish a reliable organization that’s not only resourceful but also compassionate to families and friends during this challenging time. If you’re interested in joining our deployment list, please send an email to the link below, I will personally reach out to you and we can start the process.
K9 units play a pivotal role in search and rescue operations due to their exceptional skills and abilities. Here are some key contributions they make:
Scent Detection: Dogs possess an extraordinary sense of smell, enabling them to detect scents from missing persons, debris, or articles left behind, even in challenging environments when deployed promptly (preferably no later than 24 hours at the last known location).
HRD Detection: Properly trained K9s are capable of locating human remains that a human searcher may not perceive.
Trauma and Comfort: The presence of a trained dog can provide emotional support to victims, mitigating stress and anxiety during crisis situations.
Training and Specialization: Numerous canine units specialize in specific tasks, such as tracking, area search, or disaster response, rendering them highly effective in diverse scenarios.
Teamwork with Handlers: We all work together to plan the best search areas pooling together the knowledge we all have to make the search as productive as possible.
Versatility: Dogs can be utilized in various environments, including urban, wilderness, and disaster-stricken areas, demonstrating their adaptability to diverse situations.
Overall, K9 units significantly augment the efficiency and effectiveness of search and rescue missions, thereby contributing to the saving of lives and offering hope to those in distress.
Every contribution—whether a one-time gift or full sponsorship—makes a real impact. As a 501(c)(3), we are committed to full transparency about how your donations are used.
Dylan’s Dogs are volunteer K9 search teams that respond when families and law enforcement need them most. We cover travel, lodging, and other deployment costs, which can quickly add up—some searches have exceeded $5,000 just for transportation alone. When possible, we also provide meals for the teams.
You can choose to support a specific search mission or even a particular K9 team. Donations also help us replace critical GPS equipment and cover essential K9 health care costs, which continue to rise.
These handlers and dogs give their time, their hearts, and their skills to bring loved ones home. They are often the difference between despair and hope for families in crisis.
Your support helps make sure these incredible teams are ready when they’re needed most. Please consider giving today.
